Apr 08, 2012 Install your air filter between the dryer and the cmpressor. IMHO best way to dry air is AFTER you compressed it with a refrigerant dryer because of lower volume. If dry air is what you need you end up with one anyhow. Also make sure the dryer is BEFORE the tank so it cannot exceed its maximum rated flow.

Aug 28, 2021 Once you are done with applying the cerakote, the final step before assembling your dismantled material is to bake. Finally, put the cerakoted material into a curing oven and allow to bake for one hour at 300 degrees. After baking in the oven, allow the material to cool off. Jan 17, 2018 Once it hits the point where it's not extracting ALL the moisture from the air, it needs to either be recharged or changed. Otherwise, the wee bit of moisture in the air will basically ruin the spray job (makes it run). You do want the air as free from floating particles as possible. Which is one of the reasons for the air extraction system.

Jan 22, 2021 I used to cook them in the oven, but my last 2 assembled builds were a little too long for the oven. 2 or three sections of aluminum dryer vent pipe and a hairdryer. Easily reaches 160-170 degrees. I do not leave it unattended and I don't run it for more than 20-30 (max) minutes at a time though, since it's just a hairdryer.
Jan 25, 2019 87. The oven I just built on the cheap is 36x48x16 and holds almost 240f in a 30f shop with a simple heat gun on high. It can be done VERY easily and on the cheap if you want. If you are doing 30” barrels, you’ll need every bit of 48” height if you cerakote with action attached and brake. 01-25-2019, 01:19 PM #20.
Jan 25, 2019 Cerakote lists air dry as 4 on hardness scale. Oven cure is 5 or 5+. Not sure how to quantify those ratings though
Jul 12, 2011 I have not tried the air dry, but the oven baked Cerakote finishes cannot be beaten. You can use the original oven baked formula on scopes and cure them at half the temperature for 3x the time just fine. Then let it air cure for a month before putting it back together and to work. Jul 20, 2013 Purchasing an old oven may not be an option for most, I have 220 in my garage so it wasn't a problem. Mar 28, 2022 Re: Cerakote air vs oven. The guys at NCIS told me the air cure is better for gas guns because of the higher temps they can get while firing. I am sure if a person doesn't have a way to oven cure, the air dry would work just fine for a bolt gun too. Snipenace.
May 16, 2017 Not sure how many of you have tried Duracoat, but a couple of factoids for those who have / do. First, versus waiting 24 hours before reassembly, you can actually bake the regular Duracoat in the over to accelerate the DRYING process. 110 degrees for 30 min is roughly the equivalent of the 24 hour dry period. I'm just off the phone from Duracoat.
Nov 09, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014. The air dry is for High temp only, it cures with the heat of operation. you have to beadblast with a very coarse grit and its a 1 pass coating. it doesnt like multi coats. the parts are small enough for almost any oven. I do suppressors with the high temp and its a 5 day cure .
Nov 18, 2017 No issue hanging more than enough items for a full AR build. I probably spent about $100 on the steel to make my oven. Might be $160-$175 all in on mine. Some of the supplies came from the scrap yard (rod to use on the rack). With the PID, and thermocouple (already had) I can set the temperature I want and walk away.
Sep 05, 2011 Then the frame and whatever else is getting coated has to be blasted, degreased, air dried, the coating gets mixed, the parts all get sprayed, then into the curing oven for 2 hrs, then cool down. Then removal of any coating from the internal areas where it may hamper the operation and finally reassembly testing and lubrication.
Sep 15, 2020 Just make sure that after adding insulation and heating elements, you have enough space for whatever you need to hang on the inside. If you plan on doing whole rifles, make sure you have a nice tall enclosure. For this project, I have used a tool cabinet that measures 18” wide x 11” deep x 21” tall on the interior.
Sep 22, 2021 When I was doing it, Cerakote Techs recommended 80-100 grit aluminum oxide or garnet blast media and do not use any kind of solvent to clean them afterward. Only blow them off and cook them out in the oven at 450-500 degrees to burn off any oils or contaminants before shooting them. You can sand Cerakote and recoat, did it all the time.

The oven cured finish is reported to be far more abrasion resistant than the air dry coating. The air dry is far more heat resistant....600 vs 1200 degrees.
